AVENGERS – HAWKEYE

Day 2 of my Avengers countdown. When I was about 7 years old, one of my favorite comic heroes was Hawkeye. Not sure why. I think I just liked his purple costume and the really cool trick arrows he often used. I had a bunch of Avengers issues with him on that team, but never in a major role. And then he split to form the West Coast Avengers. I thought that was really awesome, so I collected the Limited Series and the first few issues of the regular series. But that title became boring really quick, so I moved on to X-Men, Spider-man and the Punisher.

Teenage Moon: Craterface

Remember those awkward teenage years? Waking up in the morning and finding that new blemish on your nose right before the big dance? Well, it happens to moons too! Lucky for them, scientists have invented Crater-B-Gone! Now available for vote over at Threadless.com:

The Melting Rainbow

Spring is here and I’m feeling the allergies this week. Just checked the pollen level… it was a 10.2 out of 12. Which explains the worn-out, scratchy-eye, sneezing feeling I’m having the last week. The good news for that is I can stay in and work on a bunch of new ideas. This was the first of about 6 illustrations I’ve been working on. I had 2 different versions of this. Melting ice cream rainbow: one with a curve and the other straight down. Here it is up to vote over at Threadless: http://threadless.com/submission/416633/6_Flavors_of_Fun

These are the 2 versions I worked up during the process:

Rusted Robot

Worked on this piece over the last week. I was trying to find the right design for a shirt. Hoping the giant idea makes the cut. I would love to have a few of these to share if they get printed.

If you have time to throw a vote on this at threadless.com, it would be much appreciated:)

Captain America vs. Red Skull

My idea this summer was to illustrate something from each summer movie I went to. I started with Thor way back in May. I did make it to “The Hangover 2” and “X-Men: First Class” before my vacation in June. I really fell behind. So I picked up where I left off last month and wanted to make a few new pieces from “Harry Potter” and “Cowboys vs Aliens”.

First up…Captain America. I want to combine this with a Red Skull piece that I’m still working on. I love working with the iconic shield, so I made sure to get that in there. The Red Skull had to have the cosmic cube, so there is a preview of that here too. More to come…

Summer Sun’s Obsession with Ice Cream

I battled the sun last week and tried to eat some ice cream in the 100 degree heat. After about 1 minute I had drips running down both sides of my hand and all over my fingers. And then “plop”, the bar fell right off the popsicle stick. Sun 1, Chad 0.

So this week’s theme is “obsession”. I’m thinking the sun is really obsessed with having some ice cream. Unfortunately it can never get close enough before it just melts away.

Getting Soaked

Another weekend gone in a flash. I had this illustration idea on Friday and didn’t have time to work on it until tonight. The theme for Illustration Friday is “soaked”, and that pretty much sums up the weekend. A lot of thunder, lightning and rain. It actually made for a good excuse to head over to the Minnesota SpringCon today and make some nice purchases. I designated Sunday evening my night to stay in and get this finished and posted.
I have a few other things I’m working on right now and hope to post them during the next couple of days. And then I have to start packing for my 2-week trip to Iceland/Germany. So much to do and prepare for. I better get cracking on it now. Enjoy!

Sun and Moon – Duet

The theme for Illustration Friday this week is “duet”. I’m thinking the sun and moon are singing their rendition of “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off”. Wanted to share this before the week was over. It’s been really busy lately and I’m playing catch-up all week. More to come very soon.

Stirring up Spring

Thinking spring. My Twins season tickets arrived on Thursday. And we’re moving the clock forward an hour tonight. Hoping for some ice and snow melt in the next week. I can’t wait to see some grass and throw out the BBQ as soon as I can.
Continuing with my “bugs” theme this week. Here’s a little bee that is stirring up some spring pollen.
