Robot In Love

Another Threadless piece. This was based on an early sketch and the challenge was to create something with one color. The black in this image would be created by the T-shirt color. I created this character about 5 years ago. I created a story with him dealing with the life of a robot: creation, life, rust and death. Heavily influenced by my own life path and I think that’s why I haven’t shared as much. Plus, I picture a lot of this to be published in motion and set to some of my favorite music–something I have no time to work on at this moment. But maybe I’ll start sharing more of those sketches…

Rusted Robot

Worked on this piece over the last week. I was trying to find the right design for a shirt. Hoping the giant idea makes the cut. I would love to have a few of these to share if they get printed.

If you have time to throw a vote on this at threadless.com, it would be much appreciated:)

RoboPup vs Homework Round 2

I’ve been busy. Way to busy at work and after work. I have a “to do” list that keeps on growing. One of the things on my list was to submit a design to Threadless. They recently had a backpack design challenge. I thought this may be the perfect spot to use the “RoboPup” illustration. You can check it out and vote here if you would like: RoboPup vs Homework.

AND I was inspired to revisit this illustration after adopting a rescue dog from the Humane Society last weekend. I found this cute little guy on Sunday and I get to bring him home tomorrow! So excited. His name is Rocco and he came from a home with over 100 dogs. Sad story, but he is in really good shape and will be loved by the 3 of us at home. If you are interested in donating to them or reading more on the other dogs, here’s a link to the story at the Humane Society of Minnesota.

Blue Robot – Night Fishing

I’ve been working on this Blue Robot story for the last 2 or 3 years. I have about 15 different panels started. Want to start wrapping them up during the next few months. This one was started 3 years ago. I wanted to wrap this up and then move on to a few of the others.

Hothy Holidays: Part 1 – Star Wars Viper droid

Posting a few Star Wars inspired cards I created for Christmas this year. I wrapped up a few gifts and used these as labels for my brother and other Star Wars obsessed fans.  I love the Empire Strikes Back, and the Hoth playsets were my favorite as a child. Inspired to create a theme of Christmas on Hoth cards. First up: the Viper probe droid decorating a tree. I tried to get all the legs to look good, but I think even with that he felt a bit static. So I added a small “happy shape” on his top. That seemed to add a bit of holiday cheer that was missing.

RoboPup vs. Homework

I’ve been using the last few weeks to dive into my archive of old/unfinished work and finish some concepts. This is RoboPup that I worked on a for a Back to School project at Marshall Field’s in 2005. I wanted to take a shot at updating the color and final design a bit. Here’s a progression of designs…

Robo-Cowboy Part II: Revenge of the Robo-Ranger

Okay, I thought about this all week. I’ve had 2 things in my head for the last few weeks: robots and cowboys. Must be a combination of a lingering robot project and then going to see True Grit for a second time.

Last week I submitted the “High Noon Surrender”, but I didn’t really have an idea of what, or who, he was surrendering to. The theme this week is “reverse”, so I’m giving the reverse view from last week. The Robo-Ranger has tracked down our rogue robot hero.

A few thoughts I had. Originally this was going to be a group of rangers. One was shot in the leg and a few others were silhouettes. It became really cluttered for a small image. I simplified it down. I prefer the idea of 1 hero and 1 nemesis.

I’ll post more sketches and other parts in the next few days. I’m having fun developing the story. More to come…

High Noon Surrender of the Robo-Cowboy

One of my best friends, Josh Norton, has an amazing collection of woodcuts on his Etsy site. I was browsing through them last week and he inspired me with his cowboy work. Check out his store, I think the Sasquatch meets Cowboy print would make a wonderful Valentine’s gift:)

I hit the sketchbook and worked up my own Cowboy themed idea. I’ve been having fun working with this robot during the last few weeks. Who wouldn’t love to see a robot cowboy with a quick draw? I’m not sure who he is surrendering to yet, maybe next week’s theme will give me an idea for part 2.

Gotta go. Need to start cleaning this house in time for a Super Bowl party. Where’s my robot when I need him?

Dusted and Rusted

I’m continuing with my robot theme this week. Another piece I started a year ago and I’m having fun reworking these to a point I’m happy with. Just recently went back to revisit my sketch book with the main story and sketches. In a few weeks I’ll fix up the entire series and post them together.

Ads of the Future – ChefBot part 2.

I received a slow cooker for Christmas this year. As geeky as this sounds, it’s seriously the best gift ever. A big “thank you” to my sister for knowing just what to get me. Somehow, I really screwed up my first attempt with chili. I didn’t have a recipe to go by, so I mixed and matched a bit of this and a bit of that. Topped it off with Tabasco sauce and cheese, and voilà, I have…spaghetti sauce? Ugh, major fail. Since then I’ve improved, and tried out a pot roast and pork chops recipes. Not bad, I’m getting better.

But you know what would make my cooking even better? A ChefBot. That’s right, ChefBot. Complete with 800 recipes for any occasion: breakfast, lunch, dinner, appetizers, Thanksgiving, Italian, Thai, Mexican, BBQ and many more. And that’s not all! If you order from WeirdoBoy Industries in 30 minutes, we will throw in the “Brewmaster”, “Wine Connoisseur” and “Fire Safety” programs absolutely free!

I can wish, right?
