The Melting Rainbow

Spring is here and I’m feeling the allergies this week. Just checked the pollen level… it was a 10.2 out of 12. Which explains the worn-out, scratchy-eye, sneezing feeling I’m having the last week. The good news for that is I can stay in and work on a bunch of new ideas. This was the first of about 6 illustrations I’ve been working on. I had 2 different versions of this. Melting ice cream rainbow: one with a curve and the other straight down. Here it is up to vote over at Threadless: http://threadless.com/submission/416633/6_Flavors_of_Fun

These are the 2 versions I worked up during the process:

Rusted Robot

Worked on this piece over the last week. I was trying to find the right design for a shirt. Hoping the giant idea makes the cut. I would love to have a few of these to share if they get printed.

If you have time to throw a vote on this at threadless.com, it would be much appreciated:)

Captain America VS. Red Skull: Part 2

Finished up working on the Red Skull with the cosmic cube. Worked mostly in Illustrator and then switched over to Photoshop to build up a stronger intensity. I’ve been working with a very subdued and earth tone palate lately. It was a good change. I wasn’t completely happy with where Captain America ended. I revised a few things and then made a new composite featuring the two. Much happier. I’ll sleep a little better tonight.

Happy THORsday!

I kicked-off my summer movie season last night with a preview of Thor. This was one of my favorite comic characters growing up. When I was 9, I joined my grandparents on their way to a garage sale. I ended up with a big box of old Marvel, DC and Dell comic books. My favorites in the bunch were some old Stan Lee/Jack Kirby issues of Thor and the Avengers. I treated them like gold and studied the art and story continuously as a child. They are still stored away in my collection, carefully placed in poly bags with backer boards. I decided to start a few illustrations inspired by these memories. Here is the Mighty Thor and his step-brother, Loki. I’ll have a few more to post in the next few days.

Stirring up Spring

Thinking spring. My Twins season tickets arrived on Thursday. And we’re moving the clock forward an hour tonight. Hoping for some ice and snow melt in the next week. I can’t wait to see some grass and throw out the BBQ as soon as I can.
Continuing with my “bugs” theme this week. Here’s a little bee that is stirring up some spring pollen.

Draw and Cook: Egg Nog Milkshake

I was so excited this afternoon to find my illustration posted over at theydrawandcook.com I was going to submit a recipe on making the perfect White Russian, but I’ll save that for another time. Or maybe there will be a new site for they draw and drink? Hmm…

Illustration Friday – Savour

Combining a few illustration elements from the last few days. I’ve been busy working on a few different projects for Christmas and parties. I have a few more illustrations to post in the next few days. I’ll see how this weekend goes.
Even squirrels find time to savour the holiday season with a cup of egg nog. If only they made it all year round.

13 Spooky Monsters – #9: Twin Tricksters

Whoa. The last month has been absolutely crazy. I fell off the grid for a few weeks as I adjusted to a new role at work. Plus, I had a ton of sketches to scan in, clean up and then start adding some color to. I’ll be posting the remainder of the work tonight and tomorrow. Then I’m going to take a break as I work on a project for a friend’s beauty salon. I also need to get back to turning in a few items for Illustration Friday.

This conjoined monster was really excited for Halloween this year. One was thinking “superhero”, while the other was thinking “villian”. Stitch their costumes together for the perfect hero/foe pairing.
